When we first started out, insurance was largely unavailable to those in rural areas. To answer this need a group of Litchfield residents formed an insurance company to share the risks of property ownership with like-minded people. Today, we carry on this tradition within specialized market segments. As we near our third century of protecting property owners, our foundation remains as it was in 1833: Dependability. We are proud of the fact that our dependability has been a constant despite the many fluctuations of the insurance market.

Bed & Breakfast Program

No, it wasn't the welcome mat or a flashing neon sign reading: "Open." It was, and still is, the pineapple that signifies hospitality. This tradition dates back to colonial sailors who, upon returning from the hardships of long voyages at sea, would often display a pineapple on their door to say; "Come eat, drink, and be merry." This spirit of warmth and hospitality is still alive and well today and the pineapple remains the symbol of hospitality. Unlike cookie-cutter accommodations, Bed & Breakfast operations specialize in what matters: the art of hospitality.

By insuring specific markets such as Bed & Breakfasts through Litchfield Mutual, we are able to familiarize ourselves with your specific needs and concerns - a personal touch that our agents and customers find refreshing.

Antique Dealers Program

If you were to ask an antique collector what drives them to endlessly search for unusual or rare pieces of furniture or articles of ordinary life from a simpler time, their answer would often be; "preserving history". A group comprised of sixteen leading citizens of Litchfield, Connecticut formed Litchfield Mutual. They did not know it at the time, but they were taking the first steps at a long run of "preserving history". Our natural affinity for providing insurance products for pieces of yesteryear has never wavered. We still delight in finding and insuring those Antique Dealers who, along with ourselves, are interested in preserving or protecting history.
